Launch of Centre for Intellectual Disability Theology and Ministry

10/27/2015

The Centre for Intellectual Disability Theology and Ministry - the first of its kind in the UK and Ireland - is an exciting new vision of Belfast Bible College.  It is an initiative aimed at enhancing connections, teaching, research and advocacy to enrich churches, local communities and wider society through the appropriate inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.  We provide a unique opportunity to share Christian life, theology and research, ideas and practices between churches, communities, families, academics and practitioners.

Building on the work among our College Faculty and graduates over recent years, the development of the Centre is recognition of growing expertise and experience in the field of disability theology and ministry within the College and of the need to resource the Church for the mission of God in this context.  This past year has been spent making contact with disability organisations and ministries, both here in Northern Ireland and across the world, as well as delivering training and raising awareness in churches, creating new academic modules and pathways and gauging the potential for future development.  The outcome has been overwhelmingly encouraging and we are excited about the year ahead.

I am delighted to invite you to the Centre’s official launch on Thursday 19th November 2015 at 7.45 pm.  At our celebratory event you will hear more about the story of the Centre and our work in and across the fields of disability, ministry, education and theology.  You will have an opportunity to meet the Team and see how you or your church could be involved.

It has been an exciting adventure so far.  I look forward to welcoming you on our big night!
