After exploring both the Lutheran understanding of vocation and more recent developments relating to ‘gifting’, the module will examine various missional movements in relation to the marketplace, evaluate and cultivate spiritual disciplines appropriate to the working world, and discuss ethical case studies drawn from various sectors of the marketplace. Tuesday evenings @ BBC continue to be an integral part of our programme of part–time learning, offering those who are unable to study during the day the opportunity to access learning at BBC, along with the option of working towards a college award. Classes will run from September to May, giving individuals the opportunity to choose between a variety of six week modules. Assessment for these modules is totally optional, so you can simply come and take one module, or you can choose modules throughout the year and be assessed on these.
From September 2011, a number of modules will be available, specifically aimed at helping you and your church deal with the challenges and complexities of church ministry in today’s context. Perhaps you feel you or others in your church would benefit from additional training, which would help equip you for the full range of ministries you are currently engaged in. These classes will focus on a number of key areas:
Leadership
Pastoral Care
Preaching
Mission
In addition to these options, we will also be offering a range of biblical modules, taught by our full–time teaching faculty and others from the wider Christian community.
Modules will be available in each of the following streams, allowing you the flexibility to choose modules from each stream or focus on one particular stream of your choice.
For those choosing not to pursue a University of Cumbria qualification, there will also be the opportunity to work towards a BBC Access Learning Award. For the academic year 2011 / 2012 you will be able to take evening class modules which will lead to a Foundation Award or an Advanced Award.
The requirements for obtaining these awards will be as follows:
Foundation Award – Successful completion of 48 class hours + required assignments
Advanced Award – Successful completion of 96 class hours + required assignments
You can work towards these awards over a maximum of three years, but you should let us know at the time of applying that you plan to do this, so that your academic records can be compiled as you proceed through the programme.
