Belfast Bible College is delighted to announce the launch of a new and exciting collaborative partnership with the Division of Religion and Philosophy at the University of Cumbria, which will further enhance the college's long-standing history and continue to enable us to focus on our purpose of "integrating spiritual, academic and practical education, rooted in [God’s] Word, for growth in Christian life and service, locally and around the world."

Belfast Bible College has a long and rich heritage of preparing men and women for service locally and around the world.  For many years the college’s internal Certificate and Diploma programmes have been an integral part of this. From September 2010 these internal programmes will be validated by the University of Cumbria, giving students the opportunity to carry on with their studies, ultimately leading to the award of a BA (Hons) Degree in Theology. This partnership will not only build on the strengths of BBC’s existing college programme, but also enhance them in many ways. An increased number of students will now have the opportunity to gain a university award, opening many new and exciting possibilities for them when they leave.

The introduction of stringent immigration guidelines by the UK Borders Agency has made it increasingly difficult for students outside the EU to gain visas to study here. From 2010, students will only be granted a Visa for validated courses. The college’s link with Cumbria will therefore ensure that the college's rich international makeup is maintained. Furthermore, the partnership will also make it possible for local students to have access to student loans and grants, which was not previously possible.

Alongside these developments, BBC remains committed  to offering education which is 'spiritual, academic and practical’ in equal measure - a fundamental value of who we are as a college, which will be complemented by Cumbria’s commitment to practical, accessible education and training.

Ian Sinker, Head of the University’s UK Partnerships Office explains: 'The University of Cumbria is delighted to welcome Belfast Bible College as a new collaborative partner. The relationship that has developed [so far] has laid a firm foundation for a strong ongoing partnership which we are sure will be of mutual benefit to both institutions, but more importantly will enhance the opportunities for BBC students to study and complete the University of Cumbria awards.'

The courses are strongly vocational in nature, helping to train and equip people for whatever sphere of ministry or mission they feel that God is calling them to. Personal and spiritual development, alongside practical ministry training, are also key features of the programme.

BBC Principal, David Shepherd comments: ‘We’re pleased to be working with the University of Cumbria given its track record of innovative vocational education and widening participation. We’re excited by the University’s commitment to help us develop a suite of University level courses which builds on the College’s long history of practical preparation for ministry.’

A few hours CAN make a difference....

As we mentioned in the previous edition of The Link, BBC relies on the generous giving of churches and individuals to enable us to function on a week by week basis. We're so thankful to those who support us in this way, and also those who pray for us on a regular basis. But there are also really practical ways in which you can help us out!

We’re looking for people who’d be willing to give up a few hours or more a week to help out around the campus. Whatever your interests and skills - we’re sure we’ll be able to find something for you to do! We’re particularly looking for people to help out with events and also gardening, kitchen duties, admin support, reception cover, DIY, photography and many other jobs.
