The Graduate Diploma in Theology (GDip) awarded by Queen’s University, Belfast is a foundational postgraduate qualification in Theology, open to applicants who already hold an honours degree from a recognised university, at 2.1 level, in a subject other than Theology. It is ideally suited to those who have already obtained an undergraduate qualification, but who desire to develop a foundational understanding in Theology, at a postgraduate level.
The GDip allows students to work towards a high level qualification, from a very well recognised university, leaving them well placed to pursue further postgraduate study, or enter into a range of ministry situations. The course is available as a stand–alone qualification, or can lead to further study on the MTh programme. The Graduate Diploma can also be completed on a part–time basis over two years.
Overseas applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 in an undergraduate degree from a recognised university, as well as an IELTS score of 6.5 or above, if English is not their first language.
Students taking the programme are required to complete six undergraduate modules over one academic year. Assessment for most modules is by 60% examination and 40% assignment. Those who wish to proceed to the MTh programme must obtain a pass of 60% in each of the six modules within the Graduate Diploma.
Please contact us for further information about the programme, and the specific modules which are available in the forthcoming academic year.
In line with QUB’s desire to ensure their graduates demonstrate clear employability skills, BBC also offers all QUB students the opportunity to work towards an ‘Associate Diploma’ during their time with us. This is awarded alongside your Graduate Diploma, and in recognition of the extra ways in which QUB students contribute to the life of the BBC community. The Associate Diploma offers students the opportunity to complete a weekly ministry placement, a summer home or international placement as well as being involved in community life in many other ways. The Associate Diploma is widely recognised by employers, churches and ministry organisations.
Those interested in completing the Graduate Diploma should initially download and complete a BBC application form and return it to us with full details of your undergraduate degree. We will then advise you about the next stage of the application process, when you will also need to apply directly to Queen’s.
